Since the year 2001 Modena Formazione co-ordinates (with other local institutions) the framework programme called Intraprendere which main purpose is to identify new entrepreneurial talent and to support the starting and the setting up of innovative business enterprises in the Province of Modena. In particular it aims at spreading “business culture”, especially by awakening young people to the problems of “doing business” and it aims to experiment intervention models and services for assisting in the setting up of businesses.
In the heart of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Modena is an important link between Northern and Southern Italy and between Italy and the rest of Europe.
Famous throughout the world as the birthplace of Enzo Ferrari, Maserati sport cars, Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni, Modena is the capital of one of the most advanced provinces in Italy.
It hosts 20,000 manufacturing firms and 30,000 trade and services businesses. Exports of goods from the province total more than 7 billion Euros per year and reach over 180 countries.
Local firms manufacture an incredibly wide range of products. Particularly significant is machinery, including farm machinery and earth-moving equipment, automated industrial equipment, geared motors, precision components, pumps and valves.
Industrial districts are organized in clusters and are supported by a consolidated network of services and infrastructures. Sassuolo is the center of the world-renowned district of tile manufacturing, which accounts for 80% of Italy’s entire tile production. One of the world's most important districts for knitwear and textiles is around the town of Carpi, while Mirandola is becoming one the leading European centers for the production of biomedical equipment.
Agriculture and farming are the other important sectors of Modena's local economy. Balsamic vinegar. Lambrusco, Parmigiano Reggiano and Tortellini are a world famous local speciality.
Modena is also rich in architectural treasures such as the Ghirlandina Tower, the Cathedral and Piazza Grande, which was added to the World Heritage list by UNESCO in 1997. Other attractions in the province include Carpi and its renaissance architecture, the Ducal Palace of Sassuolo, and the Nonantola Abbey (source Unimore).
